Mahegun Iskwew (Wolf Woman)
Founder & CEO, Askiy-Eco Distribution Ltd.
Indigenous Woman Entrepreneur | Advocate for Land & Sustainability
My name is Mahegun Iskwew, which means Wolf Woman in Cree. I am from Maskwacis, Alberta, situated on Treaty 6 territory. As a proud Indigenous woman and the founder of Askiy-Eco Distribution Ltd., I created this company to reflect the sacred connection between our people and the land — askiy — which is the Cree word for Earth.
Growing up surrounded by the traditional knowledge of my family and our deep respect for Mother Earth, I was taught that caring for the environment is not just a responsibility — it’s a way of life. My ancestral roots in healing, medicine, and land-based practices have shaped both who I am and what this company stands for.Â
In 2024, I started Askiy-Eco with a vision to offer compostable and biodegradable food packaging to businesses, organizations, and communities across Canada. With limited resources and a deep commitment, I invested my entire life savings to bring this dream to life — guided by the belief that Indigenous leadership and care for the land is essential in building a more sustainable future.
As a woman entrepreneur, I strive to empower other Indigenous voices in business while promoting eco-conscious solutions that respect both culture and climate. Every product we distribute is a reflection of our values: honor the land, uplift the community, and lead with integrity.
Askiy-Eco is more than a company — it’s a movement rooted in Indigenous resilience, sustainability, and the strength of generations past, present, and future.
